It will supply 286 units of its 2.5-136 turbines with 130-metre “soft steel” towers for state-owned power generation company China Huaneng’s project in Henan province, north-eastern China.
GE will build the turbines in China and had designed the model specifically for the country’s low wind speeds, the manufacturer added.
The project is scheduled for completion by July 2020.
GE added that the 715MW order is the manufacturer’s largest ever wind order in Asia.
It has previously partnered with China Huaneng, which also develops gas and hydro projects, on a 151MW wind farm in Yunnan province in the south-west of the country.
