The ESS, an integrated system made up of more than 800 massive battery packs and has built-in air conditioning and liquid cooling systems to maintain the right operating temperatures.Launched by Sembcorp Industries (Sembcorp) and Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) the system is arguably Souteast Asia’s biggest battery energy system. The EES occupies two hectares of land on Jurong Island, in the Banyan and Sakra area.
The utility-scale project has a maximum storage capacity of 285 MWh, enough to supply electricity to almost 24,000 homes for a single day. The more than 800 large-scale lithium iron phosphate battery units help to mitigate intermitency issues associated with solar power and can also free up traditional generating plants to mee to meet unxpected demand.
The Singapore Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s statutory board, the Energy Market Authority (EMA), is actively promoting the installation of energy storage systems all around the island.
